About Me

Florida, United States
My name is Jean, I am a 34 year old stay at home mom of three. Two girls ages 17, 15 and then a 10 year old son. I am active in boy scouts and have been leading my sons cub scout den since Tigers and we have now bridged over to Webelos two.
I am not the worlds best cook, baker or crafter, but I do enjoy getting in there and trying new recipes, crafts and finding fun stuff to bake or make. These are my misadventures in life, otherwise known as pleasant accidents. Happy living.

Update.

I have to say, I got so busy doing a whole bunch of nothing with the kids over the summer, that this place was completely forgotten about. Certainly this needs to be fixed with an update.

UPDATES.UPDATES. UPDATES.

The kids are all back in School. Senior year for the oldest, 10th grade for my monkey in the middle and 5th grade for the baby boy of the house.

Cub Scouts is back in full swing and we find ourselves in our last year (webelos 2). We started out this year with Craftsmen. I thought it was good year to jump right in. So far we have made Indian spirit/medicine bags which went really well. We found the idea here. The boys enjoyed themselves. Two weeks ago we were supposed to make emergency paracord bracelets, which didn't work so well. I bought the wrong size clips online, so we made keychains instead, which still did not go well. I am ordering new buckles today and we well revisit them and make the bracelets. Hopefully in the end all well go well. We went on a hike this last week and this week we will be making duct tape lanyards. Sounds like fun. The idea behind Craftsman is to make 3 objects from wood and four objects out stuff that isn't wood. We started on the none wood stuff and will finish with our wood projects last. It is easier for me, lol.

My precious monkey in the middle is back in Marching band and a real school after being homeschooled for 7 months. Even bigger deal is that she is finally at the school of her choice, even though she still comes home moaning and groaning about everything. Such is life. For once she put her instrument(s) down and picked up a flag. Yes yes she joined the band as part of the color team, determined to do that as well as she does all her instruments.

Anyways, I should get a move on, life is starting to call to again in the house and the little one needs to get ready for school, so off I go. I'll have some pics up of the Lanyards as the boys make them this week.

Grilled 7-up Chicken

Honestly I hate Chicken! No, really I do. There is just something about it I do not like. Perhaps it is the fact of growing up and being told nearly all my food on my plate taste like chicken, such as snake, frog, rabbit. Growing up on a farm, we were told lots of things tasted like chicken. So, really that could have played a big part, I was traumatized perhaps by it. lol, or maybe not, either way, I don't like it much. Then again chicken is cooked a lot in my house, and yes, by me. Why? Because my husband and children like it. So I am always hunting for a new way to cook chicken, to cover it in something so I will eat it. I am a faithfully devoted pinterester, I hunt the site daily for new stuff to make, eat or what not. Just my great luck I stumbled across a pin for 7-up chicken. Only four ingredients and of one of them (the horseradish), I really wasn't sure, but said to heck with it and tried it anyways. Let's just say, I actually ate a full piece of chicken and was quite happy with it. The recipe is from a Blog called Six Sisters Stuff and you can find their blog here http://www.sixsistersstuff.com. I have been browsing through their blog for the last two days and they have some wonderful stuff posted, (and some great chicken :D ). So here you go a wonderful chicken recipe. Picture to follow once, I can find my regular camera.

1/2cup Soy sauce
1/2tsp Horseradish - I used the real stuff not the creamy style - Use more if you like
12 oz can of 7-up
1/4cup Vegetable oil.

To tell you the truth I used a 1/2 cup instead of horseradish and I think it worked perfectly. I let mine marinade in a gallon ziplock bag for a least 8 hours and next time, yes there will be a next time, quite soon in fact, I will let it sit for at least overnight. I fired up my small gas grill the hubby bought just for me and tossed that wonderful smelling chicken on and cooked it till it was done. Mhmmm, let me tell you, it was amazing and I will certainly be trying more of their recipes in the next few weeks.

Summer life

For many of you your children have just started their summer vacation, us not so much. Our last day of school was in May, we have already passed numerous weeks of Cub scout and specialty camps, and more time spend reminding mom that they are bored. Which honestly isn't so bad, because at their ages I can tune them out and do something better with my time, like pinning on Pinterest or hunting for new recipes to try. I've been doing just that, well in between the piles of laundry that always seem to appear and the house always needing a sweeping, washing and dusting. In just a few moments, you will find the one of the best chicken marinades for BBQ'ing with.
